DISH Adds Bitcoin Cash As Payment Option

U.S. satellite pay-TV company Dish Network announced the addition of cryptocurrency Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as an option for customers to make payment for monthly subscriptions, pay-per-view movies, and events.

DISH has also migrated from its former payment processor to global blockchain payments provider BitPay for cryptocurrency payment processing. DISH claims to be the first subscription model pay-TV provider to accept Bitcoin (BTC) since 2014.

BitPay allows you to accept payments from customers and business clients around the world in BTC and BCH with the secure, open source BitPay wallet.

DISH already has a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month.

As a push transaction, a DISH customer sends the exact amount of BTC or BCH needed to make one-time payments on mydish.com or DISH's Hopper DVR. BitPay exchanges payments to U.S. dollars at the moment of the transaction without cryptocurrency volatility risk.

Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin are becoming an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants.

BitPay has partnered with some of the most popular e-commerce platforms and point-of-sale systems to make ready-to deploy integration for accepting payments in BTC and BCH.

In mid-July, the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) granted BitLicense, the license for virtual currency activities, to BitPay to enable it to facilitate payment in BTC and BCH between merchants and consumers in the State of New York.

BitPay is the first blockchain payment processor and the first non-exchange to secure a virtual currency license from the NYDFS.

Earlier in mid-may, Florida's Seminole County had partnered BitPay to start accepting cryptocurrencies such as BTC and BCH for payment of taxes and other services starting this summer. It is probably the first U.S. government agency to accept cryptocurrency.
