One person was on Thursday killed when a truck rammed into a commercial car at Obarenren community in the Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was learnt that the accident occurred along the Benin-Siluko Road about 1am.

It was also learnt that the deceased, who was the driver of the car and identified as one John Inebiomanor, died instantly while a passenger was injured.

It was gathered that the driver of the truck, marked Edo DEG 908 XA and loaded with concealed items, lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to avoid a pothole on the road.

The truck was said to have collided with the car, marked Edo BEN 539 JN, in the process and caused the car to somersault.

It was learnt that the body of the deceased driver was removed from the mangled vehicle by some residents in the area.

A source in the area, who did not want to be named, wondered why the truck driver could not avoid the pothole, since he was a regular user of the road.

The source said, “The driver of the truck is supposed to be very familiar with the road because this is where he takes every week when returning from Lagos.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the Edo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. George Otoaviokhai, said that he had yet to be briefed on the incident.
